The NSW Police Force is now responsible for the regulation of the NSW tattoo industry under the Tattoo Industry Act 2012 and the Tattoo Industry Regulation 2023.
The Security Licensing & Enforcement Directorate (SLED) has responsibility for granting Tattooist and Master licences (formerly Operator licences).
SLED and local police work together to ensure compliance with tattoo industry legislation and undertake audits of body art tattooing businesses and tattooists.
