The spirit of the NSW Police Force is exemplified in the sacrifices of the men and women who have laid down their lives in the performance of their duties.

Roll of Honour

The Honour Roll commemorates those members of the New South Wales Police Force who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in the execution of their duty.

This official NSW Police Honour Roll records the name, rank, date and a precis of each death which has been accepted as duty-related by the various Commissioners (and Inspectors General) of Police of the day.

Also included on the Honour Roll is the first recorded death on duty of a serving member of any Australian Police jurisdiction.

Unfortunately due to the nature of policing, this Honour Roll will never be complete.

May they rest in peace - lest we forget.

Service Memorial

The NSW Police Force has officially unveiled a new memorial at the Sydney Police Centre in Surry Hills, to honour colleagues, both sworn and unsworn, across NSW.

NSW Police Force Commissioner Andrew Scipione was joined by NSW Deputy Premier and Minister for Justice and Police, Troy Grant, local police, families, friends and colleagues for a the formal dedication of the NSW Police Service Memorial on Sunday 27 September 2015, which was led by Police Chaplain, Father Paul O’Donoghue.

The memorial honours NSW police employees, both sworn and unsworn, who have died while serving or were unable to continue work because of an injury or illness, and have subsequently passed away as a result.

Each individual commemorated on the wall has been recognised for their contribution to the NSW Police Force and dedicated service to the community.

The names of police officers and unsworn members, who have died while serving or were unable to continue work because of an injury or illness since 2006, are inscribed on the memorial.

The date was selected, for the initial inscriptions, as a tribute to the National Police Memorial, which opened in Canberra on 29 September 2006.

However, the names of those who have passed away prior to 2006, will be considered by way of an application to a standing committee with representatives from relevant stakeholders.

A number of organisations have worked in partnership with NSW Police Force during the planning and construction of the memorial, including representatives of NSW Police Legacy, Police Association of NSW, Public Service Association of NSW and Retired Police Association of NSW.

Earlier this year, a design competition was run across the NSW Police Force and wider policing family incorporating partner organisations, which led to a final collaborative design based on four submissions.

Special thanks to the design entrants, Amanda Duncan, Superintendent Darryl Tuck, Inspector Cath Cole and Constable Brody Mulry for their contribution to the project, as well as Gray Puksand Architects, who’ve donated their time to bring the design concepts into reality.

Police Remembrance Day

Each year, the 29th September holds a special significance for Police throughout Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Samoa and the Solomon Islands. It is a day for police to pause to honour officers whose lives have been cut short while performing their duty as a police officer. This important day is also a time to remember police officers who have lost their lives through illness or other circumstances.
