Appeal for assistance following armed robbery - Fairfield

Detectives are appealing for public assistance as they investigate an armed robbery in Sydney’s south west.

About 5.25pm on Sunday 28 September 2025, a 30-year-old man attended a lane way off Alan Street, Fairfield, after arranging to purchase a mobile phone that had been advertised on a social media platform.

Police have been informed that as the man was counting the cash before the seller – an unknown man – stole the cash and ran from the location.

The 30-year-old then pursued the unknown man before being threatened with a box cutter and leaving the scene.

Officers from Fairfield Police Area Command attended the scene and conducted an extensive canvas of the area where the male was last seen; however, he was unable to be located.

There were no reports of any injuries.

As inquiries continue police have released images of a man who may be able to assist detectives.

The man is described as Mediterranean/Middle Eastern appearance, mid 20s, of medium build, with short black hair and black beard.

At the time of the incident, he was wearing a black hooded jumper, black long pants, grey sneakers and carrying a black shoulder bag.
