Further charges laid as critical incident investigation continues - Forbes

A third teenager has been charged following a confrontation with police in the state’s Central West this morning, as a critical incident investigation continues.
Officers from Central West Police District attended Calarie Road, Forbes, shortly after 3am (Monday 27 December 2021), in pursuit of a utility which had been reported stolen.
At Daroobalgie Road, the utility stopped, and the driver exited the vehicle, pursued by police on foot.
At this time, a second vehicle allegedly drove at police before police discharged their firearm.
A 16-year-old boy suffered a wound to his left calf and was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being airlifted to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a stable condition.
Two teens – also aged 16 – were charged at the time and remain before the courts.
The injured 16-year-old boy was released from hospital and arrested by investigators at St Mary’s Police Station yesterday (Thursday 30 December 2021).
He was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.
The teen was also charged with armed with intent commit indictable offence, affray, and destroy or damage property, in relation to an unrelated incident at Forbes on Sunday 26 December 2021.
He appeared at Parramatta Children’s Court today (Friday 31 December 2021), where he was formally refused bail to appear at a children’s court on Tuesday 18 January 2022.
A critical incident team from Orana Mid-West Police District will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the discharge of a police firearm.
That investigation will be subject to independent review.
