Three charged following fatal stabbing - Whalan

Three men have been charged as part of an ongoing investigation into the fatal stabbing of a man in Sydney’s west.

About 7.30pm (Wednesday 22 December 2021), emergency services were called to a reserve at Catlin Close, Whalan, following reports of a stabbing.

Upon arrival, officers located three men – aged 40, 25 and 19 – suffering stab wounds.

The 40-year-old man died at the scene and the other two men were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being taken to Westmead Hospital for treatment.

The two younger men remain in hospital in a stable condition.

All three men were known to each other.

A crime scene was established, which was examined by specialist forensic police, and a search of the surrounding area was conducted, with assistance from PolAir and the Dog Unit.

Detectives attached to Mt Druitt Police Area Command and the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident under Strike Force Jaceva.

Following inquiries, an 18-year-old man was arrested at Granville Police Station. He was charged with murder, wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (x2) and affray.

A second man – aged 19 – was arrested at Mt Druitt Police Station. He was charged with affray.

A third man also aged 19 was arrested at Granville Police Station. He was charged with accessory after the fact to murder, affray and fail to comply with form of demand.

All three were refused bail and will appear before Parramatta Local Court on Friday 24 December 2021.
