Three charged following armed robbery and break and enters - Tamworth

Three people will appear in court today charged following an alleged armed robbery and break and enters in the state’s north west.

About 11.40pm on Sunday (12 December 2021), officers from Oxley Police District were called to Church Street, Tamworth, after reports of an armed robbery.

Two men – aged 25 and 29 – were walking along Church Street when they were approached by two unknown males.

The males allegedly threatened them with a knife, while demanding money. The males stole cash and personal items and fled the scene on foot. The two men were not physically injured.

Officers from Oxley Police District were notified and commenced an investigation into the incident.

Following inquiries, investigators attended a hotel on Ebsworth Street, Tamworth and arrested two males – aged 22 and 17 – and a 24-year-old woman.

They were taken to Tamworth Police Station, where the man was charged with robbery armed with an offensive weapon, two counts of dishonestly obtain property by deception, and three counts of break and enter house steal.

The teenager was charged with robbery armed with an offensive weapon, two counts of dishonestly obtain property by deception, two counts of break and enter house steal and carry cutting weapon upon apprehension.

The woman was charged with three counts of break and enter house steal and two counts of dishonestly obtain property by deception.

Police will allege in court that a stolen bank card was used after the robbery to make purchases. It will be further alleged that trio broke into two rooms at a hotel in Tamworth.

They were refused bail to appear before a children’s court and Tamworth Local Court today (Tuesday 14 December 2021).
