A man will face court today charged with domestic related offences following a stand-off with police in the Illawarra region yesterday.

Just before 6.30pm (Wednesday 5 January 2022), officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District attended a home on McPhail Street, Unanderra, to speak to a man.

Police observed several tools - including screwdrivers, chisels, hammers, garden shears, a saw and kitchen knives - placed at the front door and upon knocking, they were allegedly threatened by the occupant.

A perimeter was established before the man allegedly broke the front windows of the home and threatened officers with a knife.

Specialist police, including negotiators and the Tactical Operations Response Group, attended and worked with officers to resolve the incident.

The man opened the front door and failed to comply with police directions. A taser was deployed and the 37-year-old man was arrested.

He was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station where he was charged with ten offences including, four counts of contravene AVO, four counts of malicious damage, common assault (domestic violence), and use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention.

The man was refused bail to appear in Wollongong Local Court today (Thursday 6 January 2022).

No one was injured in the incident.
