More than $1 million in illicit drugs, cash and weapons seized - Drug and Firearms Squad

Three men will face court today, charged after Drug and Firearms Squad detectives seized more than 1kg of methylamphetamine, cocaine, cash and other illicit substances in Sydney’s south-west.

In August this year, detectives from the State Crime Command’s Drug and Firearms Squad formed Strike Force Mejum to investigate the supply of prohibited drugs across Sydney’s south-west.

Following extensive investigations, officers executed four search warrants at Chester Hill, Yagoona, Austral and Birrong, from about 1.45pm yesterday (Thursday 4 November 2021).

During the searches, detectives located and seized more than $17,000 cash, approximately 1kg of methamphetamine, more than 400 grams of cocaine, 5 litres of Gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB), electronic devices, documentation, firearm parts, a knife, and a luxury watch.

The combined estimated potential street value of the drugs seized is more than $1,000,000.

All items seized during the operation will undergo further examination.

Three men – aged 25, 40 and 47 – were arrested and taken to Bankstown Police Station.

The two younger men were charged with various drug offences, including supply prohibited drugs on an ongoing basis, supply prohibited drug more than large commercial quantity, supply prohibited drug more than commercial quantity, and deal with property proceeds of crime below $100,000 value.

The older man was charged with 11 offences, including;

  • supply prohibited drugs on an ongoing basis (x4),
  • organises or conducts or assists drug premises - first offence,
  • deal with property proceeds of crime below $100,000 value,
  • possess ammunition without holding licence or permit or authority,
  • acquire etc pistol part - subject to prohibition order,
  • possess prohibited drug,
  • supply prohibited drug more than indictable amount, and,
  • possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit

All three men were refused bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court today (Friday 5 November 2021).
