Man charged with firearm offences following shooting - Punchbowl

A man will appear in court today charged following investigations into a shooting in Punchbowl earlier this year.

About 7pm on Tuesday 27 April 2021, a 27-year-old man attended Bankstown Hospital suffering a gunshot wound to the leg.

He was transferred to Liverpool Hospital, where police were notified and commenced inquiries.

The man was treated for the gunshot wound and has since been released.

Officers from Campsie Police Area Command established a crime scene at Punchbowl, which was examined by specialist forensic police.

Investigations into the shooting commenced and following inquiries, a 27-year-old man was arrested at a home on Burwood Road, Belmore, about 3pm yesterday (Thursday 3 November 2021).

A Firearms Prohibition Order/Weapons Prohibition Order search was conducted at the home, where police located ammunition, a knife and prohibited drugs including buprenorphine, diazepam and cocaine.

The items were seized and will undergo forensic examination.

A 27-year-old man was arrested at the home and taken to Campsie Police Station.

The man was charged with firearm in public place, possess unauthorised pistol, make false statement, drive motor vehicle whist disqualified, possess prohibited drug (x2), possess restricted substance, and possess ammunition without holding a licence.

He was refused bail and will appear at Bankstown Local Court today (Friday 5 November 2021).

Inquiries into the shooting continue.
