Two men have been charged following a police pursuit in Bankstown this morning.

About 8.20am today (Sunday 24 October 2021), officers attached to Bankstown Highway Patrol were conducting speed enforcement duties at Fairford Road, Padstow, when they detected a grey BMW travelling above the sign posted speed limit.

Officers activated lights and sirens, before the BMW stopped at Salvia Street, Bankstown.

When police approached the BMW, the driver allegedly accelerated from the area.

A pursuit was initiated; however, a short time later, the BMW crashed into a parked car at Griffiths Avenue, Bankstown, where the driver fled the scene on foot.

The remaining three occupants of the vehicle were arrested at the scene.

Police pursued the driver of the BMW on foot, when he allegedly threw a clear glass bottle containing a clear liquid onto the ground.

The man was arrested a short distance later in a reserve, and the bottle was seized for forensic examination.

The driver – a 33-year-old man – and one of the rear passengers – a 40-year-old man – were taken to Bankstown Police Station.

The other two men were released pending further inquiries.

The glass bottle and BMW were seized for further examination.

The younger man was charged with:

- Exceed speed limit more than 30 km/h,

- Exceed speed limit more than 45 km/h,

- Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous,

- Negligent driving (no death or grievous bodily harm),

- Not give particulars to owner of damaged property,
