A man wanted on several outstanding warrants has been charged during a proactive operation in the state’s north east last week.

In 2020, officers attached to the Bike Unit established Operation Tailwind to proactively prevent, disrupt and respond to anti-social behaviour and to provide high visibility policing throughout the Oxley Police District.

The operation was conducted from Monday 15 November 2021 to Friday 19 November 2021 targeting the CBD areas of Tamworth, Gunnedah, Narrabri and Wee Waa, conducting business inspections, ADVO compliance checks and move on directions.

The Dog Unit based in Tamworth assisted with the operation.

About 11.45am on Tuesday 16 November 2021, officers attended a home on Jaegar Street, Tamworth, to speak with a man before he ran inside and allegedly armed himself with a knife.

A short time later, officers arrested the man inside the home before he was taken to Gunnedah Police Station.

He was charged with carry cutting weapon upon apprehension and five outstanding warrants relating to firearm, domestic violence, break and enter and property offences.

The man was refused bail and appeared at Tamworth Local Court on Wednesday 17 November 2021, where he was formerly refused bail to reappear at Gunnedah Local Court on Wednesday 8 December 2021.

Operation Tailwind will continue with further deployments in the coming months.
