Man charged after two officers injured during arrest - South Coast PD

A man will appear in court today charged over alleged traffic and property-related offences on the state’s South Coast.

About 1.30pm yesterday (Thursday 18 November 2021), officers attached to the South Coast Police District’s Proactive Crime Team were patrolling at Clipper Road, Nowra, when they observed a man run into a home after sighting police.

When officers attended the property, they were confronted by another man who allegedly attempted to hinder their inquiries.

In a subsequent search of the home, officers located the man hiding in a bedroom, before he allegedly became aggressive towards police and smashed a window.

The 22-year-old man attempted to flee through the window and was followed by two male senior constables.

He was arrested a short time later while attempting to enter a nearby taxi.

The Bombaderry man was taken to Shoalhaven District Hospital under police guard for treatment of lacerations.

Upon his release, he was taken to Nowra Police Station and charged with;

  • Receive/dispose stolen property – indictable offence,
  • take and drive conveyance without consent of owner,
  • assault officer in execution of duty,
  • resist officer in execution of duty (x2),
  • assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm,
  • never licensed person drive vehicle on road - prior offence,
  • use unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle on road, and,
  • motor bike rider (alone) not wear/secure fit approved helmet.

He was refused bail to appear before Nowra Local Court today (Friday 19 November 2021).

The two senior constables also received treatment to lacerations caused by the broken glass.
