A man has been charged following an investigation into an alleged break and enter, where a vehicle was stolen, in the state’s north-west last month.

About 3am on Monday 11 October 2021, officers from Oxley Police District were called to a home on Belmore Street, Tamworth, after reports a Hyundai Sonata had been stolen from the home.

Police will allege the home was broken into and car keys were taken before the vehicle was stolen.

During a patrol of the surrounding area, police located the vehicle abandoned on Quinn Street at about 3.30am.

The vehicle was seized and underwent forensic examination.

Following inquiries, officers attached to the Oxley Proactive Crime Team attended a home on Quinn Street about 9.20am today (Tuesday 16 November 2021), where they spoke to a female occupant.

Officers entered the home and arrested a 35-year-old man, who was found to be hiding in a roof cavity.

The man was taken to Tamworth Police Station and charged with break and enter house and steal value less than $60,000 and take and drive conveyance without consent of owner.

The West Tamworth man was refused bail and appeared before Tamworth Local Court today, where he was formally refused bail to reattend the same court on Monday 22 November 2021.
