Man in court over alleged bushfire fraud - Mid North Coast PD

A man will face court today charged over an alleged fraud relating to bushfire support recovery grants.

Earlier this year, detectives from Mid North Coast Police District commenced investigations into alleged fraudulent claims for bushfire disaster relief and small business grants through government agencies.

Following extensive inquiries, a 50-year-old man was arrested at Port Macquarie Police Station about 9.15am today (Wednesday 1 September 2021).

He was charged with 10 counts of dishonestly obtain financial benefit by deception and 11 counts of attempt dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception.

Police will allege in court the man fraudulently obtained 11 NSW Government grants, receiving a total of $110,000 and attempted to obtain a further 10 NSW Government grants totalling $100,000.

The man was bail refused to appear at Port Macquarie Local Court today.
