A man has been charged over the alleged wounding of a police officer at Narraweena earlier this year.

About 1pm on Friday (11 June 2021), a 29-year-old man entered a retail store in a shopping centre on Anderson Street, Chatswood, before allegedly stealing clothing items.

It’s alleged the man left the store and when approached by a male staff member, he threatened him with a knife. The man fled and police were contacted.

In a separate incident, about 3.40pm the same day, emergency services were called to Raglan Street, Manly, following reports a man had been stabbed by an unknown man.

A 43-year-old man was treated at the scene before being taken to Northern Beaches Hospital. He underwent surgery and has since been discharged.

A short time later, about 5.20pm, officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command were called to a home on Warringah Road at Narraweena, where they were approached by a man armed with a knife.

The man allegedly threw a fire extinguisher at a male probationary constable, hitting him in the head, before stabbing him in the hand during the confrontation.

A shot was discharged by a second officer, with the man sustaining a wound to the leg. He was arrested and taken to hospital under police guard.

The two officers were also taken to hospital for treatment and have both since been released.

A critical incident investigation was launched into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following inquiries, detectives attended Royal North Shore Hospital on Monday 14 June 2021, where they spoke to a 29-year-old man who was charged with two offences. He remains before the courts.
