A woman has been charged after a dog was allegedly stolen from a home in Sydney’s south west at the weekend.

About 7.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 17 August 2021), officers attached to Fairfield City Police Area Command attended Austral Parade, Fairfield, following reports the family pet had been taken from a home.

Police were told 'Atlas', a five-year-old Japanese Spitz, was in the front yard of the home, before the dog’s owners noticed she was missing about 4.15pm on Sunday 15 August 2021.

Following investigations, including reviewing CCTV from the surrounding area, Fairfield City detectives attended a home on Mimosa Road, Bossley Park, about 10.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 17 August 2021), where they spoke to a 23-year-old woman and located ‘Atlas’.

The woman was arrested and taken to Fairfield Police Station, where she was charged with steal dog, possess stolen dog, and fail to comply with any other wear face covering directive.

She was granted conditional bail to appear at Fairfield Local Court on Monday 13 September 2021.

‘Atlas’ was also taken to Fairfield Police Station where she was reunited with her owners just before midnight.
