Man charged after struggle with officers - Port Macquarie

A man will face court today charged after a struggle with police officers on the state’s Mid-North coast.

About 5.30pm yesterday (Friday 13 August 2021), police responded to reports a man was acting aggressively at a golf club on Ocean Drive, Port Macquarie.

Officers attached to Mid North Coast Police District attended and requested the man leave the premises. When he refused, officers arrested the man, who then resisted in an allegedly aggressive manner.

Two retired police officers, who were at the venue, assisted the two senior constables involved in the arrest. OC spray was deployed, however the man continued to resist.

Seven additional crews attended the scene to assist and the situation was eventually brought under control.

The man was taken to Port Macquarie Police Station and charged with two counts resist officer in execution of duty, use offensive language in/near public place/school, behave in offensive manner in/near public place/school, not wear fitted face covering in retail/business premises, and excluded person fail to leave premises when required.

The 38-year-old man was refused bail and will appear at Port Macquarie Local Court today (Saturday 14 August 2021).

The two female senior constables sustained minor bruising and abrasions during the incident.
