Man charged after alleged pursuit - Woolgoolga

A man has been charged following a police pursuit in Coffs Harbour overnight.

About 10.40pm (Tuesday 5 October 2021), police were on Scarborough Street for an unrelated matter when they observed a Holden Commodore sedan approaching.

Police signalled for the vehicle to stop, before the Commodore was allegedly driven toward a male Sergeant.

The vehicle’s tyre was punctured, before the driver fled the scene at speed.

A short time later, officers from Coffs/Clarence Police District sighted the vehicle at Scarborough Street and a pursuit was initiated.

The vehicle travelled throughout Woolgoolga onto Woolgoolga Creek Road, before stopping a short distance later.

The driver allegedly fled on foot into nearby bushland.

About 11.20pm, responding police located and arrested a 19-year-old man.

He was taken to Coffs Harbour Health Campus under police guard for treatment to minor abrasions, before being released and taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station.

The man was subsequently charged with use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, drive while licence cancelled, police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously, destroy or damage property, attempt stalk/intimidate intend fear of harm (personal), use unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle on road, use uninsured motor vehicle and drive vehicle/animal on road cause damage to road/structure.

He was refused bail to appear at Coffs Harbour Local Court today (Wednesday 6 October 2021), where he was formally bail refused to reappear at the same court on Monday 15 November 2021.
