Police are appealing for public assistance after a large rock was thrown at a train, causing extensive damage and narrowly missing a passenger, in Oatley last week.

About 3.45pm last Thursday (30 September 2021), three people were seen to throw a large sandstone rock, approximately the size of a basketball, at a train running between Oatley Bridge and Oatley Railway Station.

Officers from the Police Transport and Public Safety Command were notified of the incident and commenced an investigation into the incident.

As inquiries continue, police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident, or who saw three young people in the area, particularly in the vicinity of Como Bridge and Oatley Railway Station to come forward.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence. The public is reminded not to report crime via NSW Police social media pages.
