Man charged following south west Sydney pursuits

A man has been charged with multiple traffic offences following pursuits across Sydney’s south west yesterday.

Just before 4pm (Friday 10 September 2021), officers attached to Liverpool City Police Area Command’s Proactive Crime Team attempted to stop a Mercedes Benz on Castlereagh Street in Liverpool.

The vehicle failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated before being terminated a short time later due to safety concerns.

Further pursuits were initiated and terminated as the Mercedes travelled through Chipping Norton, Milperra and Peakhurst, before it crashed into another vehicle on Stoney Creek Road, Beverly Hills, and was subsequently stopped.

The male passenger of the vehicle was arrested at the scene, and the driver fled on foot through a number of properties.

Police established a perimeter, and with assistance from PolAir and the Police Dog Squad, the driver was arrested hiding in the backyard of a home on Lee Street in Beverly Hills.

He was taken to Kogarah Police Station, before being transferred to Sutherland Hospital under police guard for treatment of a dog bite.

The 23-year-old Alexandria man was charged with drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, three counts of police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, three counts of drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, two counts of not give particulars to other driver, enter inclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse and not comply with noticed direction re s7/8/9/ – COVID-19.

He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Bail Court via AVL today (Saturday 11 September 2021).

The passenger was released pending further inquiries.
