Teenager charged following investigation into fatal crash near Cessnock

A teenager has been charged following an investigation into a single-vehicle crash near Cessnock earlier this year.
About 11.15pm on Thursday 8 April 2021, emergency services were called to a private road at Pelaw Main and found a Subaru Forrester had hit a barrier.
A 17-year-old boy suffered critical injuries after he was thrown from the front passenger seat and died at the scene.
The alleged driver of the vehicle, a 17-year-old boy, was taken to John Hunter Hospital with minor injuries; he also underwent mandatory testing.
Officers from Hunter Valley Police District established a crime scene, and specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit commenced an investigation.
Following inquires, the 17-year-old boy was arrested at Cessnock Police Station today (Thursday 12 August 2021).
He was charged with dangerous driving occassioning death-drive manner dangerous, negligent driving (occasioning death), drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, negligent driving (no death or grievous bodily harm) and not keep left of dividing line-not class B/C vehicle.
The boy was given conditional bail to appear at Kurri Kurri Local Court on Tuesday 28 September 2021.
