A man has been charged with drug, driving and weapons offences after a search warrant in Sydney’s inner city yesterday.

About 12.20pm (Friday 6 August 2021), officers attached to North/ Central Police Transport Command stopped a blue Honda Civic on Botany Road, Waterloo.

Police spoke to the driver – a 24-year-old man – and searched the vehicle, allegedly locating $27,785 cash, 17.75kg of tobacco, 14 boxes of cigarettes and keys.

The man was arrested and taken to Mascot Police Station.

Later that day, police executed a search warrant at a home in Chippendale and seized a further $81,490 in cash, various tobacco products, and a baton.

A total of $109,275 cash and $20,000 worth of tobacco items were seized by police.

The man was charged with drive whilst using mobile phone, fail to indicate, import tobacco, knowingly deal with the proceeds of crime and possess a prohibited weapon.

Police will allege in court that the man has been selling tobacco that was illegally imported into Australia.

He was refused bail to appear in Parramatta Local Court today (Saturday 7 August 2021).
