Woman charged following pursuit - Cowra

A woman has been charged following a police pursuit in the state’s Central West yesterday.

Just after 11.30am (Tuesday 3 August 2021), officers from Chifley Police District were patrolling when they attempted to stop a red Mitsubishi Lancer on Vaux Street, Cowra, for the purpose of a random breath test.

Police will allege the vehicle failed to stop, and a pursuit commenced.

The Mitsubishi travelled through Cowra, before the pursuit as terminated due to safety concerns.

A short time later, the Mitsubishi hit a marked police vehicle on Buronga Street.

The driver, a 21-year-old woman, attempted to flee on foot before being arrested after a short struggle. Her passenger was assessed by paramedics at the scene.

The driver was taken to Cowra Police Station and charged with:

  • police pursuit - not stop - drive recklessly
  • use unregistered registrable class A motor vehicle on road
  • use uninsured motor vehicle
  • exceed speed > 30 km/h
  • not comply conditions of licence
  • custody of knife in public place
  • possess prohibited drug
  • contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO.

She was refused bail to appear at Cowra Local Court today (Wednesday 4 August 2021).

The two officers in the police vehicle were assessed by paramedics but did not require further medical treatment.
