Man dies in fatal crash - St Johns Park

A man has died in a crash in Sydney’s west and police are investigating several other serious crashes across the state overnight.

About 6.20pm (Friday 7 May 2021), a 45-year-old man was driving a Toyota Echo on Sackville Street at St Johns Park, when it left the road and hit a power pole.

The man and his 81-year-old passenger were trapped as emergency services arrived at the scene.

They were both released from the car, however the man died.

The woman suffered serious injuries to her face, pelvis and back and was taken to Liverpool Hospital where she remains in a serious but stable condition.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner and an investigation is underway by officers attached to Fairfield City Police Area Command.

Police are also investigating a number of other serious crashes across the state including:

  • About 4.40pm yesterday (Friday 7 May 2021) a 38-year-old woman was driving a Landcruiser 4WD north across the Killimicat Bridge on Brungle Road, Brungle, when the car crossed onto the other side of the road and hit a guard rail before falling onto its roof in a creek below. A seven-year-old boy was airlifted to Canberra Hospital with head injuries and a five-year-old girl was taken to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital with a fractured arm. The driver was taken to Tumut Base Hospital for mandatory testing.

  • About 11.30pm last night (Friday 7 May 2021), a 44-year-old woman was driving a Jeep Cherokee on New Canterbury Road, Dulwich Hill, near Union Street, when the car crossed to the other side of the road and collided with a Mitsubishi truck and a Mazda Utility. The jeep also crashed into a parked Toyota RAV. The driver was not seriously injured and was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for mandatory testing.

  • About 12.45am today (Saturday 8 May 2021), emergency services were called to Princes Highway, Sylvania, following reports of a three-vehicle collision. Officers from Sutherland Police Area Command have been told a silver Audi sedan was travelling northbound before colliding with two parked cars and landing on its roof. The 42-year-old man was taken to St George Hospital in a stable condition. His passengers - three children aged under 10 - suffered minor injuries and were taken to St George Hospital as a precaution.

  • About 1.10am (Saturday 8 May 2021), officers from Fairfield Highway Patrol noticed a Toyota Yaris allegedly exceeding the speed limit on Avoca Road, St Johns Park, and lost sight of the car. The vehicle was located a short time later after it crashed into a fence at the intersection of Bowtell Street and Wheatley Street. The 21-year-old woman was treated at the scene for minor injuries and taken to Liverpool Hospital where she will undergo mandatory testing.

About 2.30am (Saturday 8 May 2021) officers from Cumberland Police Area Command attended Guildford Road at Guildford, near Railway Terrace, after reports a Ford Falcon had crashed into two poles and two parked cars. The driver and passenger – both 21-year-old males – were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Westmead Hospital in a serious condition. Investigations are ongoing.
