A man and a woman will face Court later today after being arrested following a pursuit in the Illawarra yesterday.
About 1.30pm on Wednesday 28 April 2021, a white Toyota Camry sedan was allegedly stolen from a car dealership at Nowra.
About 9.30am (Thursday April 29), officers from Lake Illawarra Police District attempted to stop the sedan as it headed south on New Lake Entrance Road at Shellharbour.
The driver failed to stop, and police began to follow the vehicle with the Police Airwing, Polair, called to assist.
Polair monitored the car as it travelled more than 20km north on the Princes Motorway, allegedly crossing onto the wrong side of the road multiple times before hitting two police vehicles at shopping centre on Crown Street, Wollongong.
The car continued to be tracked as it travelled south, eventually stopping in Cormorant Street, Berkeley, where the two occupants fled on foot.
A man and a woman were arrested a short time later in the backyard of a house in Teal Place.
Both were taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station and later charged with a number of offences.
The 31-year-old man, who police will allege in Court was the driver of the vehicle, was charged with;
• Take and drive conveyance without consent of owner
• Dishonestly obtain property by deception (two counts)
• Police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously (Skye’s Law)
• Drive manner dangerous
• Use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention (two counts).
A 19-year-old woman was charged with being carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.
The pair were refused bail and will appear before Wollongong Local Court today (Friday 30 April 2021).
