An investigation is underway following a serious two-vehicle crash near Albury yesterday.

About 4.30pm (Wednesday 28 April 2021), emergency services were called to the Hume Highway near Burma Road, Table Top, after reports of a truck and 4WD crash.

Police have been told a Hino truck and Toyota Landcruiser – that was towing a box trailer – were travelling southbound when the crash occurred, causing the Toyota to roll several times and the trailer to detach.

The driver and passenger of the Toyota – an 80-year-old man and 74-year-old woman – were treated at the scene before being taken to Albury Hospital, both in a critical condition.

The 51-year-old male driver of the Hino was arrested and taken to hospital for mandatory testing. He was released pending further inquiries.

Officers from Murray River Police District established a crime scene, which was examined by specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit.

As inquiries continue, anyone who was travelling along the Hume Highway at Table Top between 4.30pm and 5pm yesterday, or who may have dashcam footage, are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
