Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding a car crash, where three people died, in the state’s Central West yesterday.
About 4pm (Thursday 22 April 2021), emergency services responded to reports of a two-vehicle crash on the Mid Western Highway near Woodstock, located 35 kilometres east of Cowra.
Upon arrival, officers attached to Chifley Police District found a white 2004 Holden utility and silver 2013 Toyota Yaris had collided head-on.
The Toyota was travelling in an easterly direction, and the Holden was travelling west, when the collision occurred in the east-bound lanes. Both vehicles suffered heavy damage.
The two occupants of the Toyota, an 87-year-old man and an 85-year-old woman from Lyndhurst, died at the scene.
The sole occupant of the Holden, a 76-year-old man from Young, was also declared deceased.
“The people who have passed away as a result of this collision have come from country areas and, being small communities, it will have a significant impact on those towns,” Chifley Police District Chief Inspector Glenn Cogdell.
“My condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of those who have died as a result of this tragedy.”
Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash, or has dashcam footage, to contact Chifley Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
A report is being prepared for the Coroner.
