A man banned from driving until 2038 has been charged after he was allegedly caught behind the wheel in the state’s Riverina yesterday.

Just before 10.30am (Tuesday 1 June 2021), officers attached to Riverina Traffic and Highway Patrol Command stopped a black Holden Commodore on the Sturt Highway, Yarragundry, near Wagga Wagga, for the purpose of roadside testing.

The 32-year-old driver was unable to produce a driver’s licence, and checks revealed he was disqualified from driving until 2038.

The man was subject to a roadside breath and drug test and allegedly returned a positive detection for methylamphetamine. Further analysis will be conducted.

A subsequent search of the car allegedly uncovered cannabis and drug paraphernalia.

The driver was arrested and taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station, where he was charged with drive whilst disqualified, possess prohibited drug, and possession of equipment for administering prohibited drugs.

The Berkeley man appeared in Wagga Wagga Local Court yesterday (Tuesday 1 June 2021) where he was formally refused bail to reappear at the same court on Monday 7 June 2021.
