Teen charged over aggravated robbery near Tamworth

A teenager will appear in court today charged over an alleged robbery in the state’s north earlier this year.

About 4.45pm on Monday 8 February 2021, a 26-year-old woman stopped her Nissan Pulsar at the intersection of Fossickers Way and Split Rock Dam Road, Upper Manilla.

Shortly after a male knocked on the driver’s side window before allegedly opening the door and threatening the woman, demanding her phone.

He removed the keys from the ignition and picked up the woman’s handbag, removing cash from her wallet.

The woman retrieved her keys after the male threw them into nearby grass and drove off. She was distressed but not physically injured.

Police were notified and officers attached to Oxley Police District established Strike Force Windla to investigate the matter.

Following extensive inquiries, a 17-year-old boy was arrested after attending Tamworth Police Station shortly before 6pm yesterday (Monday 31 May 2021).

He was charged with aggravated robbery, and robbery.

The teen was refused bail to appear before a children’s court today (Tuesday 1 June 2021).
