Teacher charged over alleged historical sexual assault of student - Ballina

A man has been extradited from Queensland and charged after an alleged historical sexual assault of a student in the state’s North Coast.

In March 2021, officers from Richmond Police District commenced an investigation into reports a female student was allegedly sexually assaulted between the ages of 13 to 16, by a teacher between 1981 and 1983.

Following extensive investigations, detectives from Queensland Police (QPOL), arrested a man – aged 66 – at a home in Morayfield, Queensland, about 5.40pm on Tuesday (25 May 2021).

The man appeared at Pine Rivers Magistrates Court yesterday (Wednesday 26 May 2021), where detectives applied for, and were granted, their extradition to NSW.

The man was escorted back to NSW yesterday (Wednesday 26 May 2021) and taken to Lismore Police Station where he was charged with 11 counts of sexual assault (Category 3) - person under 16 years of age and carnal knowledge teacher of girl aged more than 10 and less than 17 years.

He is due to appear at Lismore Local Court today (Thursday 27 May 2021).
