Woman critical after crash near Penrith

A woman has been critically injured in a crash in Sydney’s west this evening.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Castlereagh and Cranebrook roads, Castlereagh, just after 6.30pm (Friday 21 May 2021), after reports a car and a truck had collided head-on.

Officers from Nepean Police Area Command and Traffic and Highway Patrol responded.

The female driver was trapped for almost 40 minutes before being released and treated by paramedics for a head injury. She’s now been taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.

The male truck driver has been taken to Nepean Hospital for mandatory testing.

Castlereagh Road remains closed with local diversions in place and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
