Wanted man charged after vehicle allegedly driven at police - Broken Hill

A man wanted on outstanding warrants has been charged after allegedly driving a vehicle at police in the state’s Far West.

Shortly before 4pm yesterday (Monday 19 April 2021), officers attached to Barrier Police District were performing unrelated duties on Chapple Lane, Broken Hill, when a vehicle was allegedly driven at them at high speed.

The vehicle narrowly missed the officers and drove from the scene.

Police commenced an investigation and search for the driver of the vehicle.

As a result of inquiries, police arrested a 36-year-old man at a home on Cobalt Street about 6.45pm the same day.

Following a confrontation and struggle, police also arrested a 35-year-old man who was wanted for domestic violence-related offences.

Both men were taken to Broken Hill Police Station and charged with multiple offences.

The older man was charged with three outstanding warrants for domestic violence-related offences, drive recklessly/ furiously or speed/ manner dangerous – second offence, drive while licence expired, use unregistered and uninsured vehicle, unlawfully possess number plates, and not stop at stop sign.

The younger man was charged with contravene prohibition/ restriction in AVO, and destroy or damage property.

They were both refused bail to appear before Broken Hill Local Court today (Tuesday 20 April 2021).
