Man, teen charged following cross-border police pursuit - Albury

A man and a teenage girl have been charged following a police pursuit across the NSW/Victoria border last night.

About 10.30pm (Thursday 15 April 2021), Victoria and NSW Police were conducting a cross-border operation targeting stolen vehicles and property crime, when officers attached to Murray River Police District observed a maroon Holden Commodore on Ryan Road, North Albury.

Checks revealed it had allegedly been stolen from a home at Wangaratta in Victoria earlier that day.

Police monitored the vehicle as it travelled across the border into Victoria, before officers attached to Wodonga Police attempted to stop the vehicle on the Lincoln Causeway as it travelled back towards NSW.

The driver failed to stop, and a pursuit commenced.

The pursuit was terminated a short time later when the vehicle travelled across the border into NSW, where road spikes were successfully deployed.

The vehicle eventually stopped in a carpark at Albury Railway Station, where two occupants fled on foot.

After a short foot pursuit police arrested a 16-year-old girl on the foot bridge of the Railway Station.

A short time later, police arrested a 21-year-old man, who was found hiding in the backyard of a home on Hanel Street, Albury.

They were both taken to Albury Police Station, where the man was charged with police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously, drive conveyance taken w/o consent of owner, receive property stolen outside NSW, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, recklessly deal with proceeds of crime and enter enclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse.

He appeared at Albury Local Court today (Friday 16 April 2021), where he was refused bail to appear at the same court on Thursday 17 June 2021.

The teenage girl was charged with be carried in conveyance taken w/o consent of owner and receive etc property stolen outside NSW.

She was granted conditional bail to appear at a children’s court on Monday 26 April 2021.
