Man charged after investigation into fatal crash - Stanwell Park

A man has been charged following an investigation into the death of a pedestrian at Stanwell Park in November.
About 8.30am on Wednesday 18 November 2020, emergency services were called to the corner of Lawrence Hargrave Drive and Railway Crescent, Stanwell Park, following reports a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle.
Officers from Wollongong Police District attended and established a crime scene, which was examined by specialist officers from the Crash Investigation Unit.
Police have been told a Toyota Hilux utility was travelling north on Lawrence Hargrave Drive, when it lost control, mounted a kerb and crashed through the fence of a home, striking the occupant in the front yard.
The 57-year-old man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being airlifted to St George Hospital, where he died a short time later.
The utility driver, a 40-year-old man, was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
Following inquiries, the 40-year-old man attended Oak Flats Police Station earlier today (Thursday 15 April 2021), where he was issued a court attendee notice for the offences of dangerous drive occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning death, drive with illicit drug present in blood and not keep left of dividing line.
The man will appear at Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday 20 July 2021.
