Man charged over highway officer assault - Albury

A man has been charged after allegedly assaulting a police officer who stopped him for a random breath test in Albury yesterday.

About 2.50pm (Thursday 8 April 2021), the driver of a silver Nissan utility was stopped for a random breath test on Jacaranda Street, North Albury.

It’s alleged the 38-year-old man exited his vehicle before refusing to participate in a breath test. The man then allegedly struck a female highway patrol officer and fled on foot, before being arrested on Glendale Avenue, West Albury.

He was taken to Albury Police Station and charged with two counts of resist officer in execution of duty, assault police, escape police custody, and low-range PCA.

The man was granted conditional bail to appear in Albury Local Court on Monday 19 April 2021.
