Man charged with armed robbery upon taxi driver - Petersham

A man will face court today (Monday 22 March 2021) charged over an alleged robbery in Sydney’s inner west.

About 4.45pm yesterday (Sunday 21 March 2021), a taxi driver attended an address in Fort Street, Petersham, regarding a fare booking.

It will be alleged that the man who made the booking, approached the 64-year-old taxi driver armed with a knife demanding money.

The man stole a sum of cash from the taxi driver and then attempted to remove the taxi driver from the vehicle.

A nearby witness has intervened, where the man ran from the scene.

Officers from Inner West Police Area Command attended and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, a 32-year-old man was arrested in Railway Street, Petersham, about 6.30pm.

He was taken to Newtown Police Station where he was charged with Robbery armed with offensive weapon and Demand property by force with intent to steal.

The Paddington man was bail refused to appear at Newtown Local Court today (Monday 22 March 2021).
