**AMENDED** Critical incident declared after body located - Lake Illawarra Police District

A critical incident investigation is underway following the location of a body in the state’s south.

About 4:30pm today (Friday 5 December 2025), officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District located the body of a woman in a vehicle, outside the police station, in Pioneer Drive, Lake Illawarra.

Early indications are that the body has been in the vehicle since approximately 6:30pm on Tuesday 2 December 2025.

The 48-year-old woman was assessed by NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, she could not be revived.

A crime scene was established and a critical incident team from South Coast Police District will investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident.

The investigation will be subject of an independent review by the Professional Standards Command and oversight by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
