The ranks of the NSW Police Force have been bolstered with 13 more officers making the switch from other jurisdictions across Australia and New Zealand.

Thirteen officers from Queensland, Victoria, South Australia, Northern Territory and New Zealand attested at Sydney Olympic Park as part of the Professional Mobility Program.

The recruitment program incentivises experienced serving police officers from other jurisdictions to join the NSW Police Force while keeping their equivalent rank (up to Senior Constable level six).

The program has made it easier and more attractive for police officers to continue their career in NSW while using and building on their previous skills and expertise.

Previously, officers who wanted to enrol were required to undertake eight months of training and start over at the rank of Probationary Constable.

The Professional Mobility Program requires officers to complete a condensed 12-week, face-to-face training course that includes academic lessons, weapons and driver training and fitness.

Graduates then undertake six months of on-the-job training as a Probationary Constable before assuming their previous rank.

On Monday (24 November 2025), six recruits will begin their first day at stations in the northern region, two will be based in the north west metropolitan region and two in western region, with one each stationed in the central metropolitan, south west metropolitan and southern regions.

Minister for Police and Counter-terrorism Yasmin Catley said the newest officers were joining the NSW Police Force at an exciting time of growth for the NSW Police Force.

“When I stepped into this role, I made it my mission to build a police force that reflects the community it serves and initiatives like the Professional Mobility Program are helping us deliver exactly that,” Minister Catley said.

“These officers have chosen to uplift their lives and those of their families to join the finest police force in the country and that’s not by chance.

“With a once in a generation pay rise and historic recruitment initiatives, we are making the NSW Police Force a modern workforce after years of inaction from the former Government.

“Next month, we’ll proudly welcome another record-breaking cohort of academy graduates, who will join these 13 outstanding officers as we continue building a stronger police force to keep the community safe.

“Congratulations to the 13 officers joining the ranks of the NSW Police Force today. Your commitment to serve our community is something we’re proud to celebrate.”

Commissioner Mal Lanyon said the 13 new recruits were in addition to thirty officers who graduated as part of the first two Professional Mobility Program classes earlier this year.

“Thirteen Australian and New Zealand officers have decided to swap jurisdictions and continue their careers with NSW Police,” Commissioner Lanyon said.

“We welcome the new officers and wish them all the best as they embark on their roles with NSW Police Force.

“These officers bring a wealth of experience from their other jurisdictions and we are grateful they have shown a commitment to bravely serving the people of NSW.”

The thirteen officers have a combined experience of 115 years in law enforcement.

Since the launch of the Professional Mobility Program, 134 applications have been received from officers across Australia and New Zealand.

In addition, the introduction of paid study in November 2023 has sparked more than 5376 applications to join the NSW Police Force.
