Boy charged over multiple alleged break-ins at Griffith - Operation Regional Mongoose

A teenager has been charged following an investigation into multiple alleged aggravated break and enters in the state’s south-west, under Operation Regional Mongoose.

Operation Regional Mongoose is a police operation to tackle serious property-related crime committed predominately by young offenders.

Officers attached to Murrumbidgee Police District have been investigating a series of break and enter offences in Griffith, including:

  • The alleged break-in and stealing from a business in Kooyoo Street, Griffith, about 3am Saturday 16 August 2025, by three people, who stole cash before leaving in a stolen 2006-model gold Kia Carnival. The vehicle was subsequently found alight.

  • The alleged break-in of an auto business on Farronato Road, Griffith, shortly before 1am on Friday 22 August 2025, where three people allegedly took keys to several vehicles including a 2020-model white Ford Ranger utility. The stolen ute was later found burnt-out.

  • The alleged break-and-enter of a dental surgery on Noorebar Avenue, Griffith, about 10am on Sunday 24 August 2025, where CCTV footage captures three people inside the business.

Following inquiries, police attended a home in Griffith about 9.30am today (Thursday 9 October 2025), and arrested a 16-year-old boy.

He was taken to Griffith Police Station where he was charged with seven offences,

  • Aggravated break and enter dwelling etc in company steal (two counts)
  • Aggravated break and enter dwelling etc in company intend steal
  • Be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner
  • Damage property by fire/explosion
  • Steal motor vehicle, and
  • Never licensed person drive vehicle on road

He has been refused bail to appear before a children’s court tomorrow (Friday 10 October 2025).
