Body found in search for boy missing from river in Tamworth

A body has been found following a search to locate a missing swimmer at a river in the Tamworth area.

Just after 7.40pm on Monday 6 October 2025, emergency services were called to a river on Scott Road and Peel Street, Tamworth, following reports a 14-year-old boy had failed to resurface after he entered the water.

Officers attached to Oxley Police District, with the assistance from Marine Area Command, SES and NSW Ambulance, commenced a multi-agency search to locate the boy.

Following inquiries, about 8.30am today (Tuesday 7 October 2025), a body was located in the river.

While the body is yet to be identified, it is believed to be the one of the missing boy.

A crime scene has been established, and police commenced an investigation into the incident.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
