Two arrested during Firearm Prohibition Order compliance checks to supress violent crime

South West Metropolitan Region officers have conducted a series of firearm compliance checks in Sydney’s south west following a fatal shooting in Forest Lodge.
About 6.40pm on Sunday 17 August 2025, emergency services were called to a hotel on Ross Street in Forest Lodge, following reports of a public place shooting.
Officers attached to Leichhardt Police Area Command arrived to find two men with multiple gunshot wounds.
A 39-year-old man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, he died at the scene.
A 31-year-old was also treated for gunshot wounds and taken to hospital in a serious condition.
Police established a crime scene, and Leichhardt detectives with assistance from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, commenced an investigation into the incident.
As part of ongoing proactive operations to interdict any further violent crime, officers attached to South West Metropolitan Region, with assistance from State Crime Command’s Raptor and Homicide Squads, executed four Firearm Prohibition Order (FPO) compliance checks in Sydney’s south west.
The FPOs compliance checks were executed over two days (Wednesday 20 August and Thursday 21 August 2025), in Fairfield West, Matraville, and Gregory Hills.
At the Fairfield West address, police arrested two men – aged 29 and 27 – after locating several small amounts of prohibited drugs, testosterone and an iPhone shaped airgun.
They were taken to Cabramatta Police Station, where the younger man was charged with possess unauthorised pistol, acquire etc pistol-subject to firearms prohibition order, two counts of supply prohibited drug >indictable & <commercial quantity, possess/attempt to, anabolic or androgenic steroidal agent and fail to comply digital evidence access order direction.
The older man was charged with supply prohibited drug >indictable & <commercial quantity, deal with proceed of indictable crime-money etc of any value and fail to comply digital evidence access order direction.
Both men were refused bail to appear in Fairfield Local Court yesterday (Thursday 21 August 2025).
