A man has been charged following an investigation into the alleged manufacture and sale of prohibited devices in Sydney’s south.
In June 2025, investigators attached to South Sydney Police Area Command commenced Strike Force Allanooka to investigate the alleged manufacture of electronic stun devices, designed to imitate the appearance of vapes and other items.
Following inquiries, a 47-year-old man was arrested by tactical police about 9:50am today (Wednesday 13 August 2025), after a planned operation in a carpark on the corner of Botany Road and McEvoy Street.
Police deployed a Taser to effect the arrest, before he was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to hospital as a precaution under police guard.
Following the arrest, officers from South Sydney Police Area Command executed a search warrant at premises on George Street, Waterloo. Police seized 14 empty vape bodies, 13 pen and marker bodies, wires, switches, USB cords and power transformers. Investigators will allege that these items were used in the manufacture of the prohibited devices.
Investigators also seized six complete stun devices. It will be alleged five were disguised as vapes and one was disguised as a permanent marker.
The man was later taken to Mascot Police Station and charged with five counts of sell prohibited weapon to person without permit, sell prohibited weapon on an on-going basis and manufacture prohibited weapon without a permit.
He was bail refused to appear at the Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday 14 August 2025.
