A man will face court today charged after a pursuit in the state’s far west at the weekend.

About 1.30pm yesterday (Sunday 10 August 2025), police were patrolling the Silvercity Highway, Broken Hill, when they attempted to stop a silver Ford Territory after checks revealed it was reported stolen.

When it failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated.

The Ford came to a stop after it ran out of fuel.

The driver, a 27-year-old man exited the car and was arrested a short time later.

Following a search of the man and the car, police seized a knuckleduster, and methylamphetamine.

He was subjected to a roadside oral fluid test that allegedly returned a positive reading to cannabis and methylamphetamine.

He was taken to Broken Hill Police Station where a secondary oral fluid sample was obtained and sent for further analysis.

He was charged with,

  • Police pursuit - not stop - drive at speed
  • Drive motor vehicle while licence suspended
  • Possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit
  • Possess prohibited drug
  • Receive property stolen outside NSW, and
  • Drive vehicle, illicit drug present in blood.

Police will allege in court the car was stolen from a home in Loxton, South Australia, between 9pm on Saturday 9 August 2025 and 4am on Sunday 10 August 2025.

The man was refused bail to appear at Broken Hill Local Court today (Monday 11 August 2025).
