Two teens charged following pursuit - Liverpool

Two teenagers have been charged following inquiries into an alleged carjacking and pursuit in Sydney’ southwest overnight.

About 11.30pm yesterday (Thursday 5 September 2024), an 18-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman were sitting in a car in a carpark on Wickfield Circuit, Ambarvale, when they were approached by two people wearing face coverings, each holding a knife.

The group approached the couple demanding they exit the car before driving away in a Mercedes coupe.

About 1.15am today (Friday 6 September 2024), police sighted the vehicle travelling on Lyn Parade, Prestons.

Officers attached to Campbelltown Police Area Command attempted to stop the vehicle; however, when it failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit continued along Trojen Avenue, Austral where road spikes were successfully deployed. The vehicle stopped a short distance away.

Three teens – aged 16 and 17 – were arrested and taken to Liverpool Police Station.

A 16-year-old boy was charged with aggravated take/drive motor vehicle with person in/on it – armed with weapon, police pursuit - not stop – drive at speed – 1st off, and drive motor vehicle while licence suspended – 1st off.

The 17-year-old boy was charged with aggravated take/drive motor vehicle with person in/on it – armed with weapon, police pursuit - not stop – drive at speed – 1st off, and learner not accompanied by driver/police officer/tester.

They were refused bail to appear before Campbelltown Childrens Court on today (Friday 6 September 2024).

A third teenage boy aged 16 will be dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.

During the pursuit police will allege that speeds of up to 200km/h were reached.
