Two men charged after police seize motorbikes - Bathurst

Two men will face court after police seized two motorbikes in the states Central Tablelands.

Just after 8pm yesterday (Tuesday 27 August 2024), officers attached to Chifley Police District received multiple phone calls about trail bikes riding around the Bathurst area dangerously and without helmets on.

About 9pm, police were patrolling the CBD when members of the public alerted officers to two males pushing trail bikes on Ribbon Gang Road, Bathurst.

A short time later police arrested an 18-year-old man and commenced a foot pursuit with another man who fled on foot with his motorbike. He was arrested a short time later on Church Street.

Officers seized the two motorbikes - a blue Yamaha motorbike and an Orange KTM - and the two men were taken to Bathurst Police Station.

Police will be seeking orders that the motorbikes be forfeited to the Crown.

The 18-year-old was charged with unlicensed for Class, Class C, R, LR or MR, use unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle on road, use uninsured motor vehicle on road, motor bike rider (alone) not wear/secure fit approved helmet, and drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous.

A 22-year-old man arrested in Church Street was charged with never licensed person drive vehicle on road, use unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle on road, use uninsured motor vehicle on road, motor bike rider (alone) not wear/secure fit approved helmet, and drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous.

Both men were given conditional bail to appear at Bathurst Local Court on Wednesday 2 October 2024.
