Man on 20 charges after alleged kidnap, police car rammed - Central Coast

A man has been charged with 20 offences following a protracted police operation involving multiple specialist units on the Central Coast yesterday.
Police will allege the chain of events began when officers from Tuggerah Lakes Police District were called to the alleged armed robbery of a business in Wyong, about 10pm Friday (26 April 2024). They were told a man left with cash, last seen driving away in a stolen vehicle on the M1 near Ourimbah.
Following a number of other incidents alleged to be linked, a police operation involving multiple resources including officers attached to Tuggerah Lakes Police District, the Tactical Operations Unit (TOU), the Dog Unit, and PolAir was launched to locate the man.
Police will allege the man was involved in a series of break and enter and steal offences, including stealing a vehicle with a woman still inside. Police have been told the man allowed the woman to get out of the vehicle at Kangy Angy before driving away. A police vehicle was also allegedly rammed at Ourimbah during the subsequent pursuit about 11am.
A 54-year-old man was arrested at 12.10pm (Saturday 27 April 2024), and taken to Wyong Hospital under police guard, where he was treated for minor injuries.
Strike Force Embassy - comprising officers attached to Tuggerah Lakes PD - was formed to investigate the incidents and, when the man was released into police custody, he was taken to Wyong Police Station where he has now been charged with 20 offences,
• Use etc offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence (two counts)
• Robbery armed with offensive weapon
• Aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence
• Aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence - people there (three counts)
• Aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence – armed
• Take and drive conveyance without consent of owner (five counts)
• Aggravated enter dwelling with intent – armed
• Impersonate police officer
• Take/detain person with intent to obtain advantage (four counts)
• Use etc offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention.
The man, from Tuggerawong, has been refused bail to appear in Newcastle Bail Court today (Sunday 28 April 2024).
