Appeal after child approached - Coffs/Clarence

Police are appealing for information following a reported child approach on the Mid North Coast yesterday.

About 4pm (Thursday 4 April 2024), two girls, aged 10, were leaving a shop on Lawson Street, Red Rock, when a man gestured at them to approach him.

The girls ignored the man and walked away.

About 4.45pm, a 9-year-old girl and 7-year-old boy were walking along Park Street, when a man pulled up in a vehicle and spoke to them.

The pair ran away before the man reportedly approached and spoke to them again, before they ran off.

About 5.15pm, the same man was seen hiding in bushland at Little Beach and police were notified.

Officers from Coffs/Clarence attended and commenced inquiries into the incidents.

As inquiries continue, police would like to speak to a man who they believe can assist with their inquiries.

The man is described as being aged in his 30s with black hair.

Police are also seeking to identify the occupants of a vehicle, described as a Grey Toyota Hilux utility with Tasmanian registration K54YU, seen in the area at the time.

The vehicle is believed to have headed towards the Tweed Heads area later that evening
