Greystanes ram-raid vans seized; inquiries continue

Saturday, 16 March 2024 08:22:29 AM

Police have overnight seized two vans used in a failed ram-raid at a shopping centre at Greystanes.

It was shortly after 4.20am yesterday (Friday 15 March 2024), that officers from Cumberland Police Area Command were called to the complex on Merrylands Road, responding to reports of a ram-raid.

Detectives yesterday released CCTV showing two white vans being used to smash through the centre’s glass entry doors, before being used to ram an automated teller machine several times.

Four men are seen on CCTV failing in their attempts to lift the ATM, before driving away empty-handed.

Following an appeal to the public for information, a white Toyota Town Ace van was found about 5:45pm on Daryl Street, Merrylands West. The vehicle was searched with a number of items seized.

Just over two hours’ later, a white Mitsubishi Express van was found nearby on Paton Street. Again, when that van was searched, items were seized for further examination.

Both vans are now being subjected to forensic examination.

Detectives investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident have renewed their appeal to anyone who may be able to identify the persons or vehicles involved to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
