Man charged over alleged shooting - Panania

A man has been charged after a woman was allegedly shot in Sydney’s west over the weekend.

About 8.40pm Sunday (27 July 2025), police were notified that a 29-year-old woman had presented to Liverpool Hospital with a gunshot wound to her right thigh.

Officers attached to Bankstown Police Area Command commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A crime scene was established in Panania.

Following extensive inquiries, officers attached to South West Metropolitan Region Domestic Violence High Risk Offender team - with the assistance from Officers attached to Hume Police District, Traffic and Highway Patrol Command and Tactical Operations Region Support - stopped a vehicle on the Hume Highway, just south of Goulburn.

An occupant of the vehicle – a 38-year-old man – was arrested and taken to Goulburn Police Station.

He was charged with 11 offences:

  • Reckless wounding (DV)
  • Fire firearm in or near public place (DV)
  • Possess loaded firearm public place (DV)
  • Contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (Domestic)
  • Acquire etc firearm - subject to prohibition order
  • Two counts of possess prohibited drug
  • Supply prohibited drug more than indictable and less than commercial quantity
  • Supply prohibited drug more than small and less than or equal to indictable quantity
  • Possess MDMA in tablet form less than trafficable quantity, and
  • Breach of bail.

He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 3 today (Thursday 31 July 2025).

Police will allege in court the 38-year-old man shot the woman in Panania on Sunday evening (27 July 2025).
