Man charged following pursuit - Tamworth

A man will face court following a pursuit through Tamworth overnight.

About 11.10pm yesterday (Tuesday 29 July 2025), officers attached to Oxley Police District were patrolling along Peel Street, Tamworth, when they attempted to stop a sedan.

When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.

It was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns.

A short time later police were patrolling Bourne Street, Tamworth, where the car was sighted mounting a kerb and coming to a stop where the driver left the vehicle and ran.

Police commenced a foot pursuit, before he was arrested and taken to Tamworth Police Station.

During a search of the man, police located a clear bag allegedly containing cannabis.

Following a search of the vehicle officers located and seized two machetes, a tomahawk, two knives, and a mobile phone.

The 33-year-old man was subjected to a breath and drug test, returning a positive reading to methamphetamine.

A secondary fluid test was conducted and was sent for analysis.

The man was charged with police pursuit - not stop - drive recklessly, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, custody of knife in public place, possess prohibited drug, and destroy or damage property.

He was refused bail to appear at local bail division court 5, today (Wednesday 30 July 2025).
